Professional Version Access is required.
Course structure in Ideagen Academy defines the organisation and sequencing of course content, including modules, lessons, and assessments. Rules can be set to control access, completion requirements, and prerequisites, allowing administrators to tailor the learning experience and track progress efficiently.
1. Course Structure
Before adding your content, we recommend you consider the structure of your courses to ensure a consistent and unified approach. See the diagram below for our recommended structure.
2. Course Catalogue
Your course catalogue will contain courses that you have assigned to it as well as courses created by Ideagen. Courses that belong to your branch will only appear in your course catalogue if you have selected the 'Show on catalogue' setting when adding the course.
When a learner of your branch logs into the Academy, they will see the courses on which they are enrolled on their home screen. A link to the course catalogue will display on their home screen, where they can view all other courses in your course catalogue.
3. Course Rules
Course Rules in Ideagen Academy
- You can establish scoring methods and rules for your courses, including unit order, specific unit completion, and test completion.
- These rules enable you to structure the course sequence and steps for learners. If no rules are set, learners have flexibility in unit order.
Setting Course Rules
- Click the Course Rules button on the course dashboard.
- Choose the scoring method using the Set the course score Equal to drop-down list:
- The average score of all completed units.
- The average score of all completed tests.
- The average score of all completed assignments.
- The average score of all units that can receive a score.
- The average score of specific units.
- To apply scoring method changes to existing learners enrolled in the course, use the Completed course change score drop-down list:
- Never
- Better score only
- Always
Setting the Course Sequence
- To enforce a rule requiring learners to complete units in a specific order, enable the Serial Rule button under the Serial traversal rule heading. When enabled, it turns green, indicating that learners must complete the previous unit before advancing to the next one.
Managing Completion Rules
- All existing completion rules are displayed on the page, and you can add new rules or edit/delete existing rules using the buttons in the operations column.
Adding Completion Rules
- To define how a course is marked as "completed," click the Add Condition button.
- You can add a new rule using the options available in the Condition drop-down list:
- Completed all units (making all content units mandatory).
- Completed all tests (making all tests mandatory).
- Completed all assignments (making all assignments mandatory).
- Completed a fraction of units (making a set percentage of units mandatory).
- Completed specific units (making one or more units mandatory).
- Spent an amount of time (set in minutes).
Defining Conditions
- You can specify relationships between conditions using the "And/Or" options in the Relation with other conditions drop-down list.
Conditions | Description |
---|---|
Completed all tests AND completed a fraction of units (50%) | Learners would need to complete all tests in the course and at least 50% of the units to complete the course. |
Completed all tests OR completed a fraction of units (50%) | Learners would either need to complete all tests in the courses or at least 50% of the units to complete the course. |
Note: By default, ALL new courses have the Completed All Units rule applied.
- To set other rules for the course, such as prerequisites, go to the course dashboard and select the Properties tab.
- The Depends On field can be used to set any prerequisites.
